Folklore Enchanted

Apart from the power obtained from our wonderful sun, our private island is blessed with much local enchanted folklore. One of these being the magical and healing, sleeping Goddess

“Inabuyatan Island, 1,105 feet (337m) high, is a conspicuous object on entering Bacuit Bay.

At first glance this enchanted island somewhat resembles a mammoth on its haunches.” However looking more closely you will discover her Goddess eyelash and then connect to the whole profile of her beautiful enchanted calming face.

For years we’ve called her an enchanted Princess, now through current folklore, she has been elevated to our our Healing Goddess, though her given name by the locals is Inabuyutan or sometimes Pinagbuyutan Island. Jens Peters chose her out of 7,100 island to feature on the cover of the 1996/7 Lonely Planet Travel Guide Book.

That photo was taken from our dining area and he quotes:” With its white sandy beach and palms, Inabuyutan is also one of the South Seas dream islands of the archipelago.” Lonely Planet, 5th Edition, 1994.

Another German Travel Agency ‘Anders Reisen’ used her enchanted photo for their front cover of their Asian Travel Catalogue in 1995

The folklore of our enchanted Sleeping Goddess is respected by the local people and believed by the elderly to have gone into deep long sleep, being unhappy with the world and now she is just patiently waiting for the world to heal.

Her tears created an enchanted underground cave on the north-western side of the island which is full of stalactites, glistening crystal-like walls and a freshwater lagoon (previously documented by Jacques COUSTEAU)

This cave is hardly ever visited by other visitors, as the timing and tide must be right and you generally need a foreign guide as the locals because of another local folklore are quite afraid to go here. Many visitors say that even just a short visit to this enchanted cave felt more special than going to the popular Underground River in Sabang, in Central Palawan, as it is unique and you are more personally involved.

You swim/snorkel through a small arch, turn right and go though a narrow gorgeous cave tunnel and into a huge tall enchanted chamber. This is full of magical limestone sculptured art-work from God, then into a fresh water lagoon. You can also swim to the end, all with the aid of flashlights. It’s not for the faint-heated or those afraid of the dark.

Another piece of enchanted folklore is that the Goddess was and still is, the island where lovers go ‘to make love’.
